When was the last time you massaged your belly? Not just brushed over it while putting on a shirt, or briskly washed it with soap, but luxuriously massaged every inch of your belly–and enjoyed it! The abdomen can be a source of physical pain or discomfort for many, largely stemming from the plethora or digestive and reproductive challenges plaguing our society today.
Where do the host of digestive and reproductive issues people experience stem from? Physical traumas are one major player in the degradation of the health of the internal organs. Falling on the tailbone, running on cement surfaces, chronic constipation, several pregnancies close together, insufficient postpartum care and wearing high heels can all contribute to digestive and reproductive difficulties. Additionally, emotional traumas such as constant high stress environments and sexual abuse can be significant contributors in our digestive and reproductive challenges. The Arvigo Techniques of Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT) is a bodywork modality working with the pelvic and abdominal organs to promote optimal positioning and health. The techniques address symptoms such as painful or irregular menstruation, fertility challenges, endometriosis, PMS, frequent infections, difficult menopause, displaced uterus, and so much more. Maya Abdominal Massage was developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo after more than three decades of research and study with her mentor, Don Elijio Panti, in the jungles of Belize. The massage is a non-invasive, external therapy method that guides the digestive and reproductive organs back into their proper positions. Working the digestive and pelvic organs promotes the release of physical and emotional stagnation, improves blood, lymph and nerve flow, enhances the function of the organs, all drastically enhancing overall health and well-being. The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage helps to relieve many pelvic and abdominal conditions typically treated by drugs or surgery such as:
What does a typical session look like? Your first ATMAT session will be anywhere between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. During this time there will be an extensive conversation about your health history and what your goals are in receiving the work. Depending on your needs, you may have a vaginal steaming session (an incredible experience!) before you get on the table. Once on the table, you will be given the Maya bodywork which will entail working on the entire abdomen as well as the back, glutes, sacrum, and legs. After your session you will be given some time to integrate the work as well as recommendations for at home self-care to support your healing process and well-being. Most recipients of this technique leave the session feeling relaxed and with a greater sense of ease and circulation in the abdomen. Many experience noticeable relief from digestive and/or reproductive health issues within the first three treatments which are generally scheduled every two weeks or once per month. Some women experience an emotional release as the work can be deep and may access patterns of holding in the body. Furthermore, the self-massage protocol can help recipients continue and deepen healing between sessions.
